How to Care for Lash Extensions

Lash extensions need gentle, regular care to stay clean and tidy. Oils, makeup, sweat, and everyday debris can collect around the lash line, while rubbing or pulling can loosen extensions before they naturally shed. A simple routine helps protect both your extensions and the delicate skin around your eyes. Use products suited to extensions, clean carefully, and follow any aftercare instructions from your lash artist, since techniques and adhesives can vary.

Cleanse Gently and Regularly

Clean your lashes with a cleanser labeled safe for extensions, following its directions. Avoid oil-based products around the lash line unless your lash artist confirms they are suitable for your set. Apply cleanser with clean fingertips or a soft lash brush, working gently along the lash line without scrubbing or tugging.

Rinse thoroughly with clean water so cleanser and residue do not remain between the lashes. Pat your face dry with a clean towel, taking care not to press or drag it across your extensions. If you wear eye makeup, remove it carefully with an extension-safe product rather than picking at flakes or rubbing mascara from the lashes.

Dry and Brush With Care

After washing your face or showering, let your lashes dry fully before brushing them. A clean spoolie can help separate the extensions and restore a neat shape. Brush lightly from the middle toward the tips, and avoid catching the brush at the lash line, where pulling can stress your natural lashes.

Keep your spoolie clean and do not share it. If lashes look tangled, use a gentle touch rather than forcing them apart. Drying and brushing should make the set look orderly; they should not cause discomfort. Stop if you notice pulling, irritation, or unusual shedding, and ask your lash artist for guidance.

Protect Extensions Day to Day

Keep your hands away from your eyes as much as possible. Rubbing, twisting, and picking can loosen extensions and put strain on natural lashes. Be mindful when removing clothing over your head, drying your face, or sleeping. A clean pillowcase and a position that does not press your lashes into the pillow can reduce friction.

Choose eye makeup and skincare carefully. Heavy creams and oily products near the lash line may leave buildup, so apply face products with a little space around the eyes and cleanse away residue. Avoid using a lash curler on extensions, and follow your artist’s advice about mascara, heat, swimming, and other activities specific to your set.

Know When to Get Advice

Some natural shedding is expected as your own lashes renew, so extensions may gradually look less full. Do not pull out extensions that seem loose. Let them shed naturally, or contact your lash artist if a lash is uncomfortable, twisted, or catching on nearby lashes.

Redness, swelling, persistent itching, pain, or discharge is not a normal part of routine lash care. Stop using products that may be causing irritation and seek appropriate medical advice, especially if symptoms are severe or continue. Your lash artist can advise on extension maintenance, but they cannot diagnose an eye condition.

Cleanse gently, rinse well, dry carefully, and avoid rubbing or pulling to keep lash extensions looking neat.
